Give some tender loving care to your valuable heirlooms in the attic- for generations to come to enjoyAlthough Woody's Train Shop has almost twenty seven (27) years experience in repairing O and 027 model trains, there can be situations where mail order repairs are not suited for everything. Especially on older models and units that have not been properly cared for. I do not just repair the immediate problem, I restore the unit to as close to original (or better) as possible. This is the policy of the shop, it will not be repaired to be re-repaired, it will be repaired to provide many years of carefree use. Most of the units (including engines, accessories, transformers, etc.) that I work on are "old" and are in need of some tender loving care (cleaning), parts and new wire. Some of the units that I have worked on were 70 years old and had not missed a beat until the time they were brought in for repairs. These units were properly maintained (greased and oiled every year). But, eventually "something" gives up and they need fixed. Because they were properly maintained, very little was needed to get them up and running again, and in turn cost little to restore or repair. In some cases, units (only 50 to 60 years old and even much newer) were put in the attic years ago by their owners, because they didn't work. If they weren't properly maintained or abused it will be more time consuming to repair and unfortunately cost more to fix. However, if this is a family heirloom, it may very well be worth the money of getting it in working condition. So............what I am trying to say is, that if two identical units were delivered to the shop on the same day for repairs, one could have a repair cost of $65.00 and the other could cost $165.00. It all depends on "what's" wrong, and how much pampering or abuse it received over the lifetime of the product. I often work miracles on many of the units that are repaired here, but we give no guarantees that the units can be fixed at a reasonable cost (compared to its value). Sometimes "replacing" the unit is far cheaper. |
